What’s stirring up the breeze in Malibu these days, besides the usual ocean wind?
One of the biggest chunks of land in this sun-kissed paradise — once listed for a hefty $13.5 million — is hitting the auction block today, and it’s got the locals and house hunters buzzing.
We’re talking about a whopping 130+ acres of prime Malibu real estate owned by Canadian tech mogul Frank Schilling – who made his fortune as the founder of Uniregistry, a registrar for internet domain names.
And it’s not just any piece of land; dubbed ‘Encinal Canyon Bluff’, the three-parcel plot is a huge blank canvas sitting pretty next to big names like Neil Young and Daryl Hannah.
The 31959 Pacific Coast Highway property, set high above the celebrity estates fringing the coast below, is being brought to market by the auction experts at Concierge Auctions in partnership with Bill and Daniel Moss of Coldwell Banker Realty.
130+ acres of prime Malibu land
Imagine the scene: vast, unobstructed ocean views from atop the Encinal Bluffs and Broad Beach, offering a serene backdrop to what could be the most coveted blank canvas in all of Malibu.
This expansive property, a rare gem in a community fringed by celebrity estates, is stepping into the spotlight for the first time as a single auction lot.
It was once listed for $13.5 million
Previously listed for a cool $13.5 million, this trio of parcels is one of Malibu’s premium offerings, and it comes with unparalleled views and one of the most coveted spots on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Frank Schilling himself couldn’t hide his excitement, sharing in an exclusive quote for Fancy Pants Homes that “Encinal Canyon Bluff is one of the largest and most special freehold land holdings on Pacific Coast Highway in stunning Malibu. Soaring high above the Encinal Bluffs and Broad Beach, the auction of this incredible blank canvas consists of three titles and offers endless opportunities for passionate and creative purchasers to leave their stamp on the Malibu community.”
Previous plans for the land included a Tobias Architects-designed home
Schilling had big plans for this Malibu gem — once earmarked for a 10,000+ square-foot home. In fact, the designs have already been completed by Tobias Architects, and all the plans will be made available to the buyer after the auction.
But future owners aren’t limited by any existing designs, as the prime development opportunity can easily accommodate multiple homes on the combined estate.
Plans were scrapped following Schilling’s move to the Cayman Islands
Why is the successful entrepreneur parting ways with this Malibu gem?
Frank Schilling has been spending the better part of recent years chilling in the Cayman Islands, running a restaurant (Mykonos Cayman), and launching some fancy Greek bubbly rose — Aphrodise, also available in the U.S.
But his loss could be another lucky owner’s gain.
Bidding kicks off today, March 28
And here’s the kicker – bidding starts today! And it’s all happening online at Concierge Auctions, leading up to a live showdown at The Maybourne Beverly Hills, scheduled for April 11.
“At Concierge Auctions, we pride ourselves on achieving market value from a global collection of buyers,” said Bob Buttaro, Vice President of Business Development at Concierge Auctions.
“‘Encinal Canyon’ is a prime example of a premier offering in the land development space, which we continue to forge ahead on as market leaders. This is truly unique and one of the final such opportunities available in Malibu.”
A clean slate ready for its next act
For those with deep pockets and even deeper imaginations, this property is a clean slate for creating something truly iconic.
Whether it’s a sprawling single-family estate or a few cozy homes lined up to soak in the great views, the sky’s the limit.
For those interested, ‘Encinal Canyon’ is available for private showings by appointment, in person, or virtually.
